Do I need an Accountant?

If you are running a business or providing professional services, then yes, you need an accountant to prepare your financial statements and file your personal or corporate income tax return(s) and to provide much needed tax planning and advice. Ultimately, it is your decision, however an accountant can provide tax planning expertise and business advice based on real-world experience and backed with extensive education. I am bound by laws and ethics to provide you with the best, unbiased advice I can.

What is a CPA, CMA?

Chartered Professional Accountant, Certified Management Accountant is an individual professionally competent in accounting who has met the examination, education and experience requirements of the Society of Management Accountants and the Institute of Chartered Professional Accountants of Ontario.

Aren't accountants expensive, can I afford it?

I am, however most engagements are simple and can be provided at set rates, so you know the price up front. Preparation of personal income tax returns, for example, start at $150. Also, think of how much it may cost if you are audited by the CRA and do not have the time nor expertise to deal with them.

What is a bookkeeper and what do they do?

A bookkeeper is the person that performs all manner of record-keeping tasks for your company. They enter most of the day by day transactions and are responsible for month end financial statements and some year-end preparation.

Why do I need a bookkeeper?

A bookkeeper keeps your records up to date for GST/PST/HST purposes, helps track accounts receivable and accounts payable and keeps banking information up to date. If you don't, you could face fines and penalties from CRA and losses from poor planning.
